L3/4 Paddler - Shelly Beach Ocean Session - 6:30am - 8am
Each Sunday the Shelly Beach session is designed to improve your ocean paddling skills, open water knowledge and fitness whilst having fun in a safe environment. Each session is led by an experienced coach Dave Neal who will place safety first whilst being mindful of each paddlers individual skill and experience level.

The location provides an opportunity to develop the following set of open water skills:

- Negotiating the impact zone as part of beach entry and exit.- Wave riding unbroken and broken waves.- Catching ocean wind waves and swell.- Improving strength and cardiovascular fitness.- Ski remounting skills in open water.- Practising paddler safety and assistance skills on the water.- Dealing with and harnessing refraction.- On water communication options (hand signals, radio, phone, epirbs etc).- Dealing with equipment failure (e.g. broken rudder line, broken paddle).

There'll be a chance to debrief over coffee at the end of the session to compare stat's, share war stories and relive our time on the water.

You certainly don't need to be an experienced ocean paddler to take part in these sessions, however at a minimum, you should be able to paddle and remount your ski comfortably in calm flatwater conditions.
