Maria was born and raised on Long Island and is one of five children. She grew up very active and was a cheerleader and a gymnast during her childhood. It's no surprise that her favorite class in school was Phys Ed. At age 10 she was chosen to lead her entire sixth grade class in an exercise routine on sports night at her school. Fitness has been in her blood her whole life. After she graduated high school Maria went on to study business at SUNY Farmingdale and then joined the work force in the banking industry. She spent the next eight years in a position she wasn't happy in, always knowing that wasn't her calling. She eventually got married, had twin boys and became a stay at home mom. After she had her children, Maria rediscovered her passion for fitness and started working out again. Over the next few years Maria realized that fitness was her calling and decided to become a certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer. Through AFAA Maria got certified in not only group exercise and personal training but also kickboxing. She then went on to become a Balanced Body certified Pilates instructor in both Mat and Reformer. Maria still felt there was more to learn so at age 39 she went back to college and completed the Fitness Specialist program at Suffolk Community college, graduating with honors. Today she laughs when she thinks about that sports night all those years ago when leading a gym full of sixth graders through an exercise routine would become her passion and purpose. "It brings me absolute pleasure and joy to help people become the best version of themselves they can be" she says. "I am very grateful to be so blessed to do what I love as a profession and will continue to do it as long as I can!"
