Melissa Deidre Major is the Programmes Coordinator for the Cancer Society of the Bahamas. She has a central role in the development and coordination of Cancer Society of the Bahamas (CSOB) programmatic activities. A Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Motivational Speaker and a 2015 Bahamian Icon Award Nominee for Humanitarianism. Melissa often lectures about health and wellness at corporations, hospitals, churches, schools and other civic organizations. A young adult cancer survivor of non-hodgkin’s lymphoma, Melissa’s inspirational life story makes her relatable and empathetic. After receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and working very closely with the cancer community in the Bahamas she realigned her focus to inspire many people to take charge of their lives and make better decisions for their overall health. Melissa is the founder of Freedom Survivors and Freedom Kids support group which operates under the umbrella of the Cancer Society of the Bahamas. She is a member of the Bahamas Country team for the development of a National Cancer Registry and the development of a National Cancer Control Plan. Her enthusiastic approach to life and her concern for the well-being of others is infectious.
