Meirra
Meirra
Meirra has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She started training in the classics, tap, ballet, jazz and continued dancing all through school. From 4th grade to 8th grade she attended Miller South Magnet School of Visual and Performing arts with a focus in visual art and dance. In high school she mixed things up with a 4 year stint in MMA, Jiu Jitsu and Hapkido. In college Meirra discovered partner dancing and started competitive ballroom and performance salsa.
She now dances with the UNC Ballroom team in all four dance styles and is actively competing in International Latin (Samba, Chacha, Rumba, Jive, Paso Doble) and Standard (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz). She is also a semi-pro salsera on the Cobo Brothers Dance Company (CBDC) and trains in bachata, kizomba and zouk as well.
Meirra approaches fitness from a perspective of capability. She focuses on improving movement and stability and expanding body awareness. Her aim is to use exercise in order to make other daily activities more enjoyable.
